Alexis & Ariel

CLIENT: Kutztown University Communication Design

BRIEF: Develop a project that stems from your heart and translates to the hearts (or heads) of others.

SOLUTION: As a twin, I never consider it a fun fact until new colleague/classmates/friends find out and are bewildered – they don’t know what it’s like to have another half. Further, they don’t seem to grasp that the two halves fit together in weird ways. Twinship is a spectrum; sometimes we like the same things and sometimes we don’t. Our personalities are rarely identical and also rarely opposite. Alexis & Ariel: A Story About Twins walks elementary readers through a day in the life of twins and teaches them to have no expectations when meeting new people.

Alexis and Ariel are presented to be gender neutral without the use of pronouns. Readers may assign pronouns as they wish, though this story explores the development of a child’s personality without the influence of gender norms.
